This a really good read about love, loss, and landscape over two decades of living in a 1961 Artcraft mobile home in the Utah desert.

ISSUE #042 | VIEW ONLINE |

Art
Welcome to issue 042.

So, it's now winter in South Africa (kinda) and todays art is basically my spirit animal right now.

This week has been real crazy for me as I started going back to class again. I almost didn't write todays issue because of how little time I've had to myself this past week.

But....the show must go on as they say, and sadly The Slice doesn't write itself!

In other news...

After browsing a set of old books in my house, unbeknown to me, I managed to find two books that I didn't even know I owned, but on many  occasions, have been recommended.

Atomic Habits.

Sapiens - A Brief History of Humankind.

I think finding both of these, especially Atomic Habits, couldn't have fallen into my lap at a better time as I'm trying to get into a daily routine of doing things. One of them is waking up at 6am, something that Im definitely not used to, but finding it a bit easier day by day after reading a few chapters of Atomic Habits.

And well...what can I say about Sapiens. It's just sucks you in, even in the first chapter.

Newsletters 🚀

My picks of dope newsletters for this week.
This weeks featured newsletter is Creativerly, a weekly digest about creativity and productivity-boosting tools and resources, combined with useful insights, articles, and findings from the fields of design and tech.

So I have a top 10 OG list, and by OG list, I mean the first 10 newsletters that I ever subscribed to, which got me into writing my own newsletter. This was one of them.

Creativery is written by a good internet buddy of mine, Phillipp, who is a product designer based in Austria and a huge advocate for online privacy and anything open source. Cretiverly shares a lot of the same ethos and topics as The Slice does, and I think if you enjoy the content that I share, you'll love what Philipps got in store too.

Do check him out!

Interesting reads  📚

There's a lot of crap on the internet, here's a gem or two.
Notes from a Moab Trailer.
This a really good read about love, loss, and landscape over two decades of living in a 1961 Artcraft mobile home in the Utah desert.

"In 1993, while squandering a perfectly good college degree, I washed up on the shores of the Colorado River in the sweltering hamlet of Moab, Utah, and found work as a river guide and dishwasher. I was 22. I’d left San Francisco, where, like other English majors, I had hoped to find the writer’s life but instead worked bad jobs to pay rent, which back then was $350. Exorbitant, I thought." Read More

10 questions to improve your well-being at work
A virtually infinite number of productivity books have been published, each with their own frameworks, strategies, and sometimes magical formulas to be more productive and more creative. Very few of these books combine productivity, creativity, and mental health. How do you get started if you want to achieve more, but don’t want to burn out in the process? Read more

A guide to creating a great CV
Pretty bummed out that I only came across this a few days ago. I actually had to help a friend recently with writing the perfect resume, and this definitely would been a lot better resource to refer to. Check it out
