Welcome to issue #047
Decided to change things up a little with an updated header. let me know what you guys think!
I really like the idea of this newsletter being a magazine, but only in your inbox.....well at least that's what I'm hoping for.
In other news...
I learnt a new word this week. It's called
languishing. Adam Grant wrote a great
New York Times article on this. "It wasn’t burnout — we still had energy. It wasn’t depression — we didn’t feel hopeless. We just felt somewhat joyless and aimless. It turns out there’s a name for that: languishing."
I'll square with you. It's a pretty nice to finally be able to assign a word to that blah feeing most of us experienced during our lockdowns because it makes us able to manage it better.
This is where the concept of
flow can be an antidote to the feeling of languish. For a recap, when in flow people are wholly focused on the present moment, they experience a strong sense of control, they lose their self-consciousness and their ego, their experience of time changes so that time can fly by or a moment can seem to slow down, and the joy of performing the activity becomes an end in itself.
A great way I attained a sense of flow was when I had just started off writing this newsletter. It had my utmost undivided attention that literally got me lost in the moment. I was not focused on the past, nor was I focused on the future, but rather the present.
Jogging also somehow managed to hit that flow spot for me. Apparently this shit is what they call "runners high". 10/10 would throw up on the side of the road again
😂Now for this week issue
