ISSUE #046 | VIEW ONLINE |

Art
Artist: Giordano Poloni
Welcome to issue #046

So about a month and half ago I became a student again, jumping head first into IT (networking, security, routing and cloud services) and holy f*ck this shit is hard. I'll be writing my my first exam in next 3-4 weeks, but I've made an oath to bring out these Slice issues. If I do send a day late, you know why!

But I do have to admit, the feeling of being a student again and going to class everyday is really refreshing.

On another note!

I'm a big fan of BearBlog...like a really big f*cking fan and it makes me happy to see these tiny passion projects just absolutely crush it and thats exactly what the creator of BearBlog is doing.

If you don't know what BearBlog is, it's privacy-first, no-nonsense, super-fast blogging platform with no trackers, no javascript, no stylesheets, just words and is all done by a one man show...who also happens to be a fellow South African.

The creator, Herman, has now turned his side project into a community funded project that has an ethos of privacy first, zero ads and accessibility for everyone. That's definitely a project/cause I can get behind. If you're a fan of Bear, and you'd like to contribute to the project, you can support here

With that being said, I'll be adding all The Slice subscribers to my personal mailing list on Bear in which I write a long form articles, once or twice a month, but don't worry you'll be able to opt out and any time.

Now for this week issue

My picks of dope newsletters for this week.
This weeks featured newsletter is The Curious Bunch that delivers 3 interesting reads, 3 productivity tools, and 3 insights that make you more creative at what you do. Basically a lot of 3s.

This newsletter is fairly small at just under 550 subscribers, but honestly it should be way more than this. It's short, toot to the point and packed with tiny nuggets thats worth checking out.

Success Addicts’ Choose Being Special Over Being Happy
The pursuit of achievement distracts from the deeply ordinary activities and relationships that make life meaningful.

Imagine reading a story titled “The Relentless Pursuit of Booze.” You would likely expect a depressing story about a person in a downward alcoholic spiral. Now imagine instead reading a story titled “The Relentless Pursuit of Success.” That would be an inspiring story, wouldn’t it? Read More

What Nobody Says about Startup Moms.
Everyone knows raising kids takes up a lot of your time. And anyone who knows about starting startups will agree that startups also take up a lot of your time. This creates a conflict for anyone doing both. But how much of a conflict is there? Read more

How to Motivate Yourself to Change.
Struggling to change in the ways we want to is a common human experience. Many of the practical steps required aren’t easy or fun. This makes motivation a challenge. No matter our excuses – not enough time, not enough energy, not enough money – we often say to ourselves that ‘it’s too hard’, ‘I can’t be bothered’ or ‘I’m just not that motivated.' Read more

Efficiency is the Enemy
There’s a good chance most of the problems in your life and work come down to insufficient slack. Here’s how slack works and why you need more of it.

Imagine if you, as a budding productivity enthusiast, one day gained access to a time machine and decided to take a trip back several decades to the office of one of your old-timey business heroes. Let’s call him Tony.. Read more
