I also wanted to mention 8 Business Networking, run by Colin Mckeand, events are held in Edinburgh and Glasgow and highly recommended. This week we met in Hotel Indigo in Glasgow. They also run virtual events. We are also delighted to launch our new Destination guides which you can see on our blog page, We will be posting 5 blogs a week to help build our audience. Environmental Sustainability in Scotland
|
|
Responsible Tourism aims to minimize negative impacts and maximize positive contributions to enhance the overall sustainability of all forms of tourism. The focal point lies in mitigating the environmental effects associated with tourism, which play a crucial role in developing a sustainable business and destination. Environmental sustainability refers to the concerted efforts to diminish tourism's adverse influence on the environment while maximizing its benefits for Scotland. Various interrelated issues, including climate change, pollution, resource depletion, and habitat loss, contribute to the negative environmental impacts of tourism. Preserving Scotland's natural heritage is essential for our well-being and contributes to the prosperity of businesses and communities, establishing Scotland as a responsible tourism destination of global distinction. Incorporating sustainable practices into business operations is pivotal. This involves reducing carbon emissions, enhancing energy efficiency, implementing waste reduction, reuse, and recycling strategies, promoting eco-friendly transportation options such as walking, cycling, and low-carbon modes, minimizing harmful chemicals, and supporting the protection and regeneration of natural habitats to safeguard biodiversity.Environmental sustainability is important due to Scotland's international renown for its natural heritage, scenic beauty, landscapes, and wildlife. By celebrating and preserving our natural treasures, we can position Scotland as a global leader in nature conservation and achieving net-zero initiatives, solidifying its status as a must-visit destination. To maintain Scotland's image as a captivating, conscientious, and thriving tourism hotspot, every tourism business must adopt a sustainable management approach in their business strategies and promote natural heritage sites to customers engagingly and responsibly.Furthermore, operating more sustainably brings tangible benefits for businesses, including cost savings, increased staff engagement and retention, meeting growing customer demand for sustainable offerings, ensuring legal compliance, and managing risks effectively.

Debbie Clarke is an innovator, entrepreneur, business owner, podcaster, community-builder, and staunch advocate for regenerative approaches to tourism. She also knows a thing or two about LGBTQ+ Travel below are some of her insights.LGBTQ+ travellers approach is a change trip planning with a heightened awareness of potential risks, carefully evaluating whether their choices will provide a sense of acceptance and safety. Unfortunately, only a few destinations and businesses effectively communicate the information needed to instil that reassurance.Merely incorporating a pride square into a logo for one month of the year needs to provide genuine reassurance. A more authentic and meaningful approach involves openly stating, "We welcome LGBTQ+ Travelers," as this conveys a stronger message. When it comes to LGBTQ+ travellers, accommodations hold paramount importance. The key consideration revolves around whether they will be genuinely embraced and allowed to be themselves without experiencing discrimination or discomfort.LGBTQ+ travellers exhibit remarkable loyalty toward places that create an environment of safety and acceptance. It is crucial to recognize that approximately 50% of individuals under 25 now identify as something other than heterosexual. It is important never to assume that two women checking in together have intended to book twin beds.

The recently launched Midlothian website offers many suggestions for visitors seeking attractions, accommodations, and dining options. It also provides inspiration for themed excursions, ranging from scenic dog walks to thrilling active adventures.
Furthermore, visitors can explore sites featured in films and TV shows, ensuring a unique experience. The website also provides comprehensive details on accessibility, transportation, and responsible tourism practices.
The creation of the website is credited to the Midlothian Tourism Forum, a pioneering organization that unites representatives from local businesses, the Midlothian Council, and VisitScotland. Together, they collaborate to foster and promote tourism throughout the region.
The website has been made possible through the Scottish Government's LACER funding (Local Authority Covid Economic Recovery), awarded to Midlothian Tourism Forum by Midlothian Council. Councillor Colin Cassidy, the Cabinet Member for economic development at Midlothian Council, expressed his belief that the website will be a valuable resource in revitalizing tourism, which is crucial in bolstering the local economy.

Why did you choose Private House Stays?
Cassie approached us and convinced us of the benefits of putting our property on a smaller site. We had been on Private House Stays before the revamp, and the difference is night and day compared to what it was before. The site is incredibly user friendly, and Cassie and her team care about us succeeding. How has Private House Stays helped your business?
Private House Stays has helped our business. One thing we appreciate is Cassies' connections and willingness to send professionals our way; web designers have improved our website. A significant positive is the embedded calendar widget that we host on our site, it really makes everything easy to manage. An obvious plus is all of the promotional stuff Private House Stays does for the property; it has helped our bookings. Would you recommend Private House Stays to other owners?
Absolutely we would; most people use the massive OTA's but the commissions are so high. The benefit of Private House Stays is the pricing and how caring the team is. Bigger OTA's are faceless corporations where if you have a problem, you are given someone who has no vested interest in solving it as soon as possible. Cassie and her team are approachable and look to fix whatever issues we have as quickly as possible.
